Back Of The Check Book

A baby sitter we thought we could trust
Hell of a time finding a good baby sitter. We interviewed several. She seems nice enough. The kids liked her.
It was fine for a while. Then I thought I smelled a scent of cigarettes in the house. I used to smoke but not never in the house. Anyway, I have a nose for it. Did she step outside and leave the kids alone?
Days later, I thought I noticed the vodka diminishing. But how often does one pay attention to that. My wife didn't drink so I started to question myself.
Then the bank called. They were presented with a $250.00 check and the signature looked a bit strange.
The number of the check was way off. Too far forward. What the baby sitter had done was forge a check out a sequence so we would not notice, at least for a while. At least until she was fired, quit or on to her next family.
This could have been much worse. Did you ever see the film "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle"?
We could have filed charges but we just wanted her out.
